Rosehill Recycle Water Scheme
Construction of the $100 million Rosehill Recycled Water Scheme started in November 2009. The Rosehill-Camellia Recycled Water Scheme is to be built, owned, operated and maintained by two private operators, AquaNet Sydney Pty Ltd (a Jemena company) and Veolia Water Australia.
The Rosehill Recycled Water Scheme will provide high quality recycled water to major industrial customers and parks in Western Sydney and reduce the demand on Sydney’s drinking water supply. The scheme will initially deliver 4.3 billion litres of recycled water per year to industrial and irrigation customers in Smithfield and Rosehill. Recycled water is water that has been used, collected, treated and purified and is an important part of the NSW Government’s 2006 Metropolitan Water Plan.
SewerFix - Northern Beaches Storage Project (NBSP)
Wet weather sewage overflows in the Northern Beaches are caused by a lack of capacity in the Narrabeen submain and the local sewerage network. When it rains, stormwater enters sewer pipes through small cracks, illegal connections and leaks. This stormwater builds up in the system and then overflows to stormwater drains and creeks in Brookvale, Curl Curl and Freshwater. These overflows are designed to stop wastewater from backing up into houses. Sydney Water identified 18 overflows in the area that do not meet the DECCW target. Work has finished on six of these overflows and the rest will be addressed through a combination of the NBSP and further improvements to the sewerage network. Part of this improvement work is about to start in Pitt and Abbott Roads, North Curl Curl, and Brighton and Bennett Streets, Curl Curl.
